Northeast Health Volunteer Application

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VOLUNTEERING

What are our time commitments?

The minimum time commitment is 3 1/2 hours a week for a minimum total of 50 hours.
You must be able to commit to volunteering on a weekly basis.

How old must I be?

The minimum age to volunteer is 14 years of age.
Volunteers between the ages of 14 and 18 must provide a Parental Consent Form before beginning volunteer service.

What is the process?

Once our application is received, it is reviewed and assessed. If your application is approved and there is an opening for the day, time and program you are interested in, we will telephone you to arrange for an appointment for an interview.
During the 30-40 minute interview, we will review our policies and procedures with you and provide you with a health assessment form to have completed.
New York State Board of Health requires anyone volunteering in a healthcare environment to have a two-step PPD screening for Tuberculosis.
You will complete a Statement of Confidentiality.
You will receive written annual orientation material.
Once these steps are completed, and all forms are in order, you are ready to begin your volunteer assignment.

How long does the processing take?

On average, it should take a minimum of 2-3 weeks.

Can I volunteer for just the summer?

Yes! However, you must commit to the minimum of 40 hours.

Will I be able to shadow a doctor or have clinical experience?

It is rare that we have a volunteer opportunity of this type.

Are there any research positions available?

No, research positions are not offered through the Hospital's Volunteer Services Department.

How long is my application kept on file?

Applications are held for three months only. If you do not complete the process within three months, your application will be discarded (unless otherwise approved by the volunteer department). There are many departments and programs within the Hospital that utilize the services of volunteers. Some assignments may involve direct patient contact, while others focus on clerical support. Availability of assignments will vary, depending on the needs of a particular department at any given time. Volunteering on a weekly basis is a big responsibility. Please make certain that you are able to make such a commitment.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST IN VOLUNTEERING. WE LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU SOON.
