The Eddy Haven for Abused Elderly

The Eddy Haven for Abused Elderly

A short-term safe residence for victims of elder abuse

Each year, thousands of older adults are abused, neglected and exploited by family members and others. Many victims are people who are frail and vulnerable ... individuals who cannot protect themselves. They depend on others to meet their most basic needs.

To provide a temporary, safe haven for victims of elder abuse, we are proud to introduce .... The Eddy Haven for Abused Elderly.

The Eddy Haven for Abused Elderly provides a short-term, safe residence for victims of elder abuse who need to leave their homes. The program, serving individuals in Albany and Rensselaer counties, also reaches out to professionals, the elderly and those who care about them to increase awareness about elder abuse and provide legal advocacy and referral to support services.

For every client entering the elder abuse shelter, professional and medical staff develop a plan of care. If civil legal assistance is required, we also provide linkages to obtain orders of protection or other legal services that may be needed.

Following their stay, clients either return home -- if safe -- with community support services or transfer to another living situation.
