Volunteering at Eddy Village Green

Qualifications

Volunteers must be in good general health (standing, walking, bending, sitting) and should have the interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of people. Also important is the ability to speak, read and write English.

Volunteers should have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Training

Volunteers will participate in general orientation, including Eddy Village Green general policies, confidentiality and dress code. In addition, supplemental training may be required, as necessary.

Seniors/Baby Boomers
Recognizing the advanced skill level and experiences offered by mature adults, Eddy Village Green seeks 'baby boomer' volunteers. Opportunitiesare available to participate and make a substantive difference in the lives of elders through:

  • Gift Shop - record sales on register with sales tax handled per procedure; assist with keeping shop neat and tidy; restock and record inventory per procedure; consult with manager on all gift shop related issues
  • Clerical/Administrative - prepare information packets; provide supplemental telephone/ reception coverage; type and/or computer work, as required
  • Recreation - assist in running errands; socialize with residents; transport elders in wheelchairs to entertainment sites; help elders with newspapers, mail and other reading material; interact with elders, including playing cards, games, and just talking
  • LifeStory Program - interview elder and/or elder's family to obtain biographical information; sing gathered information, construct a written narrative of the elder's life story to be shared with family,friends and staff

 

Students
High school and college students bring energy and enthusiasm into the lives of our resident elders. Eddy Village Green welcomes student participation in these areas.
