Eddy-Ford Nursing Home

Eddy-Ford Nursing Home is a 122-bed skilled nursing care center located at The Eddy's Cohoes campus. Adjacent to the Eddy Cohoes Rehabilitation Center and the Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center, Eddy-Ford is surrounded by scenic grounds and courtyards for residents. Originally the Mary and Alice Ford Nursing Home, Eddy-Ford has been a member of the Cohoes community since 1975, and a proud affiliate of The Eddy network of services since 1988.

Eddy-Ford Nursing Home also offers for respite care for individuals, normally cared for at home. Respite care gives family members and caregivers time to tend to other family or work obligations and relief from the grueling day-to-day caregiving responsibilities. Respite care is available at Eddy-Ford for one to four weeks at a time, with a maximum of six weeks of care during a 12-month period.

Eddy Village Green is currently under construction on the Cohoes campus. Modeled after THE GREEN HOUSE®, an innovative concept that transforms traditional skilled nursing home care for seniors, Eddy Village Green will will offer an innovative new approach to nursing home care -- one that eliminates the conventional, institutional feel of traditional nursing facilities. The new campus will feature 16 ranch-style houses -- with each house accommodating 12 residents, complete with private bedrooms and baths, for a total of 192 seniors.

Staff who care for elders in this new model are CNAs/certified nursing assistants, and are referred to as a "shahbaz" (singular) or "shahbazim" (plural). They are specially trained and encouraged to engage more in the lives of the residents, much like family members.

Eddy Village Green will be the first-of-its-kind community in the greater Capital Region and New York State to replicate THE GREEN HOUSE®. The new model has proven to improve quality of life for residents, with less depression and greater dignity, privacy, meaningful activity and relationships.

Construction of the first six ranch-style houses is underway with the first residents from Eddy-Ford Nursing Home to move in during late fall 2008. The transition of remaining residents is expected during fall 2009 into the early part of 2010.
