A changing role.
Today, the role of the nursing home is changing. To respond to this change and to meet the emerging needs of the communities we serve, our nursing homes provide both long-term residential care, as well as short-term rehabilitation.
Long-term residential care
Traditional 24-hour skilled nursing care is provided at all four residences. Each offers a friendly and homelike environment in comfortable and familiar surroundings. We encourage residents to remain as independent as possible, while we provide as much personal assistance as necessary. Services and programs include:
- Physical, occupational and speech therapies
- Dental, optometry and podiatry services
- Social work counseling
- Psychological services
- Housekeeping and personal laundry
- Beautician/barber services
- Activities to promote intellectual and creative growth
- Trips and outings to stay in touch with the community
- Resident councils and family support groups
- Telephone, cable television and Internet access
- Religious services
- Hospice care
Short-term rehabilitation
Until recently, if you needed rehabilitation services following surgery, accident or stroke, you had only one option -- a rehabilitation hospital. Today, experts realize that many people can regain their strength, mobility and independence in a less intensive setting ... such as a nursing home.
While Eddy Cohoes Rehabilitation Center provides comprehensive rehabilitation services in an acute hospital setting, the same team of skilled therapists also travels to our nursing homes to provide physical, occupational and speech therapies to short-term residents. Trained in the most advanced rehabilitation techniques available, they have one goal in mind ... getting you home as soon as possible.
And, throughout your rehabilitation, you'll enjoy a comfortable and homelike residential environment, as well as a variety of social and recreational activities.
Admission
For long-term residential care, we encourage prospective residents and their families to schedule a tour. Meet our staff. Ask questions. Decisions on admissions are made on an individual basis, as vacancies occur.
For short-term rehabilitation, The Eddy will work with your physician and hospital staff to determine if one of our nursing homes is appropriate for you -- to help you reach your full potential and ease the transition from hospital to home.
