A Healing Path

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old science which includes asana or body postures and movements, meditation, deep relaxation and pranayama or breathing exercises. As a participant in a yoga class you will experience a renewed sense of ease and control and will become an active participant in self-healing.

Many health benefits of yoga have been documented:

  • Reduces stress and stabilizes the nervous system

Classes

Most classes are scheduled in seven-week sessions at a cost of $90 per session. You will need to complete a health evaluation form. For more information, please contact us at (518)346-7389.

Therapeutic Yoga for the Heart - Tuesdays, 5 - 6:15 pm
Great care is taken to help you adapt to each class, where you will experience deep relaxation and pranayama to relax the nervous system and restore well-being. Each class includes very gentle yoga asana, vinyasa and restorative postures, which will leave you feeling calm and renewed. Based on the model developed by Nischala Devi and used in the Ornish Lifestyle Heart Trial, the class has been expanded to include those with arthritis, fibromyalgia, hypertension, chronic pain, as well as heart-related concerns and other health issues.

Beginning Level Yoga - Tuesdays, 6:30 - 7:45 pm
You will learn and practice basic level yoga asanas, vinyasa, as well as pranayama practices and meditative deep relaxation. Appropriate for beginners and those with prior experience.

Yoga for Wellness - Thursdays, 6 - 7:15 pm
Class will focus on the Viniyoga methods to bring stability and strength to the lower and upper back, hips, and shoulders, while bringing awareness to the breathing patterns guiding motions through asana. (We will practice portions of the work utilized in the Annals of Internal Medicine study on Yoga for the Back).

About the instructor

MARY J. SCOTT, MA, RYT 500, is a certified Yoga of the Heart ® teacher trained by Nischala Joy Devi, the creator and director for the Stress Management portion of Dr. Dean Ornish's Lifestyle Program for Reversing Heart Disease. She holds certifications as a Structural Yoga Therapist™ and a Structural Yoga Teacher, and is a member of IAYT, the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She is an AFAA certified Personal Trainer and also works in the Sunnyview Lifestyle Wellness Center.
