Providing the most advanced comprehensive outpatient services with care and support, our multidisciplinary team of therapists will tailor a treatment plan to meet your individual needs. Our up-to-the-minute treatment techniques, combined with state-of-the-art equipment and a focus on patient/family education, assures that you, or your loved one, receives the best care possible.

Physical Therapy

Using a combination of manual therapies, various modalities, exercise and education, our licensed physical therapists work with you to improve mobility and function, and help you manage your pain. Available techniques include, but are not limited to:

  • Joint mobilization
  • Myofascial release

  • Soft-tissue mobilization
  • Vestibular rehabilitation

  • Electrical stimulation

Occupational Therapy

Our licensed occupational therapists work to help patients improve their strength and range of motion, as well as relieve pain, to enable them to return to work and other activities of everyday life. Treatment interventions include:

  • Exercises and strengthening
  • Environmental adaptation
  • Work simulation
  • Sensory re-education and visual retraining
  • Paraffin, heat, ice and ultrasound

Lymphedema Management

Nationally certified by the Lymphology Association of North America and trained by the Academy of Lymphatic Studies, our therapist provides comprehensive rehabilitation for individuals with lymphedema, including manual lymph drainage, compression therapy, decongestive exercises and skin/nail care.

Post-Surgical Breast Cancer Rehabilitation

The program provides a holistic approach to the treatment of individuals who have undergone breast cancer surgery. This unique program helps reduce the long-term effects of breast surgery that can have a significant impact on the patient's quality of life.

By implementing early range of motion, strengthening and flexibility training, and by providing quality education and support, side effects of breast cancer treatment can be minimized or prevented.

Hand Rehabilitation Center

The Hand Rehabilitation Center at Albany Memorial Hospital is a unique hospital-based outpatient program dedicated to rehabilitation for hand, arm and neck disorders. Our specialized staff of occupational, physical and certified hand therapists combine their expertise to provide each patient with a comprehensive and individualized program.

We work closely with patients, families, other medical professionals and community resources to provide the highest quality care available.

The program is designed for individuals with problems of the neck, shoulder, forearm, wrist or fingers, including:

  • arthritis
  • fractures
  • tendon and nerve injuries
  • repetitive stress syndrome
  • traumatic injuries
  • Dupuytren's contracture
  • Reflex sympathetic dystrophy
  • Congenital deformities
  • Burns
  • Post-surgical care

Speech/Language/Communication Disorders

We are proud to offer state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment for adults with speech/language/swallowing disorders resulting from:

  • acute, chronic and progressive neurological conditions
  • head and neck cancer
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary conditions
  • complications from surgery
  • other conditions

Individuals receive a thorough evaluation and individualized treatment plan. We work closely with family members, friends and others to help the individual regain his/her speech and language function, improve communication with others, and identify strategies to make reading, writing, speaking and understanding easier.

Specialized treatments include Vital Stimulation, EMG biofeedback and videofluoroscopies.

Services are provided by NYS licensed and American Speech and Hearing Association certified speech-language pathologists.

A physician's prescription is needed for rehabilitation services and some insurance companies may require a physician referral. Please call us if you have questions. We'd be happy to talk with you and determine if your health insurance plan works with us.
