Cardiac and Stroke Services

In the next 60 seconds, someone in the United States will suffer a stroke and heart disease will claim another life. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is this nation's leading cause of death. Each year about 700,000 people will suffer a stroke making it the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of serious disability.

Recognizing the tremendous impact of heart disease and stroke, Northeast Health has created comprehensive programs focusing on education, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Through its comprehensive network, Northeast Health offers the full continuum of stroke and heart-related services, including primary care, acute care, rehabilitation services, long-term care and home care.

Early Diagnosis and Treatment

Early diagnosis and treatment are key in preventing the complications associated with heart disease and stroke. At Albany Memorial Hospital and Samaritan Hospital, we provide a full range of diagnostic tests to detect heart disease at the earliest stage possible.

In addition, Samaritan Hospital offers cardiac catheterization, a state-of-the-art non-surgical procedure used to diagnose abnormalities in heart valves, chambers and in the coronary arteries. This procedure is used to evaluate patients exhibiting chest pain, heart murmurs or congenital abnormalities. Cardiac catheterization helps determine the best method for correction and treatment without the risks associated with exploratory surgery.
