Low Vision Program

Millions of Americans have reduced eyesight that prevents them from being able to work, perform everyday tasks, or even socialize with their friends and family.

The Low Vision Program at Sunnyview helps individuals effectively use their remaining vision to maximize independence in daily life. Services are designed for people whose best corrected vision does not permit reading or other visual activities without difficulty.

Services are provided to people of all ages with:

• Macular degeneration
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Glaucoma
• Cataracts
• Retinitis pigmentosa
• Cortical blindness
• Congenital defects

Our specially trained occupational therapist will:

• Evaluate safety and independence in the home
• Suggest home modifications that will increase safety
• Train the patient to work with optical and non-optical devices, including electronic equipment such as closed-circuit televisions
• Determine the best position for optical devices
• Provide worksite evaluations
• Provide telescope training and on-road evlouations
• Provide linkages to resources
