Bone Center/Osteoporosis

Bone Health/Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a serious medical condition that affects more than 28 million Americans and causes more than 1.5 million fractures annually in the United States alone.

Osteoporosis is a "silent" disease becausebone loss occurs without specific symptoms. Individuals may be unaware thatthey have osteoporosis until their bones become so weak that a sudden strain, bump or fall causes a fracture.

Recognition of risk factors and early detection can lead to a decreased risk of future bone breakage.

Early Detection

Bone density is the leading predictor of a person's tendency to develop osteoporosis. Sunnyview offers the most up-to-date technology to evaluate bone density at the spine, hip and forearm. Dexa scanning, a quick and easy method for assessing bone density, is available in Sunnyview's diagnostic imaging.

The test, in conjunction with a medical questionnaire, aids in evaluating overall risk for developing osteoporosis.

Patients diagnosed with osteoporosis may be referred to Sunnyview for physical therapy services and a customized exercise program.
