SLINGERLANDS, NY -- Beverwyck, Albany County's first full-service retirement community and an affiliate of The Eddy not-for-profit network of seniors services, recently completed a $6 million expansion, opening two innovative "small houses" and introducing a new level of skilled nursing care on the Slingerlands campus.

The latest phase, called Eddy Village Green at Beverwyck, completes the continuum of care at the Beverwyck campus which has offered independent and enriched living for seniors since 1993. The new skilled nursing addition will enable aging residents to remain on campus as their health needs change.

Unlike traditional large nursing home facilities, the two "small houses" are uniquely designed to accommodate 12 nursing home seniors each, where residents and staff can interact much like an extended family.

Eddy Village Green at Beverwyck is located at 21-31 Beverwyck Lane, Slingerlands. Construction for the addition began in May 2010 and took approximately eight months to complete. Architecture+ served as the architect, with AOW Associates serving as contractor.

Beverwyck is currently home to nearly 250 independent and enriched housing residents, and 24 skilled nursing residents. The retirement community first launched in September 1993 with 85 one- and two-bedroom apartments and 15 cottages for independent living. Two years later, the campus expanded with its phase II, adding 85 independent apartments and a community auditorium. Phase III in 1999 added 41 assisted living apartments called The Terrace at Beverwyck -- designed for seniors requiring assistance with the activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing and taking medications. In 2007, phase IV expansion added 14 new deluxe cottages for independent seniors.

Beverwyck is an affiliate of The Eddy and a member of Northeast Health, a regional, comprehensive, not-for-profit network of healthcare, supportive housing and community services comprised of The Eddy, Albany Memorial Hospital, Samaritan Hospital, and Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital.
